John and Jeannie Wilson came to this country from Scotland and settled in Walworth County, WI. They purchased the Prairie View Farm from Palmer Gardner, who homesteaded on the land in 1836. Their son, Robert and his wife Grace, raised Western lambs, and sometimes fed out up to 8,000 to 10,000 a year In 1943, their grandson, Ralph Wilson, bought his first Hampshire hogs. He has since added Yorkshire, Landrace, Durocs and Crosses on the Prairie View Farm near Burlington, WI. Along with his wife, Jeanette Niles Wilson, and children Julie, Scott, and Jan, they continued to raise prize winning hogs on their 500 acre farm. Ralph and his children all showed their stock at the Walworth County Fair in Elkhorn and have received numerous awards. He's been active on many Boards at a national and state level and involved on area committees. The voice of the farmer may be heard through Ralph Wilson. He and his wife have passed these traits onto their children. Son, Scott, continues to manage the many duties involved in running such a large but family owned operation. Careful thought goes into breeding and care of their herds. The only SPF certified Hog operation in the State of Wisconsin. Meaning their hogs are disease free and rigorously tested. No anti-biotics or chemicals of any kind are used. They also, continue to sell their stock all over the country. In 2003, Scott opened Wilson Farm Meats in Elkhorn. There they do all the processing and packaging of their meat. It's truly from the Farm to Your Table. Along with their different varieties of bacon, ham, bratwurst , prize winning braunschwieger and other specialty meats, they offer a fine line of cheeses, beef and chicken. Behind the counter, are Scott's children, Anna and Alex, along with a friendly crew whose waiting to serve your culinary needs. So when in Elkhorn, stop by and say Hi! to Dale, Dana, Melissa, Tom and Mike. During the summer months, every Friday, you'll find tables and chairs set up in front of the store and Wilson Farm Meats at the wood fired roaster serving up some of the best BBQ in the State. Good eats from 11:00 - 2:00. You also may find yourself dining at one of the many area restaurants that buy Wilson Farm meats for their establishments. |
